INDIAN RIVER 3, MADRID-WADDINGTON 0
Madrid-Waddington Coach Charlie French said, “November
4, 2023We came out very strong and played our game
against OFA. We didn't play at the same level vs. Indian
River. IR’s blocking and jump serve were particularly
difficult for us. We did rally and give them some good
competition in the second and third sets. Kaitlyn
Putman, Madison VanGordan and Erica Bates played strong
at the net and served confidently. Kaitlyn found her
groove with some big hits in the middle of the third
set. Keianna Webb, Lillan Todd and Baylie Skinner were
solid at passing and setting. In the first three sets
against OFA the team communicated, covered for each
other, and played as strong as I have ever seen them
play from the overall team perspective. I hope we can
carry that positive team energy into Wednesday in Homer,
NY!”

M-W Coach Charlie French commented, “It was not a smooth
start as CF was fired up and smoked us in the first set.
We just played flat and couldn't receive from their best
servers. In the second set. senior captain Lillan Todd
stepped up and rallied the team. Clifton-Fine took an
early lead in the 4th set at 17-10. We played better
defense at the end of the match to catch them at 22-22,
but ended up losing 25-22 In the 5th and deciding set,
we came out with strong energy. This was the sixth time
this season we have been in a deciding set. We have only
lost to one opponent (Indian River 15-13) in the
deciding set. Our first two servers performed
exceptionally and the team played very strong at the
net. Keianna Webb served for two points and Kaitlyn
Webb, who hadn't served in any previous matches,

M-W JACKETS end finals drought: win class d title
MADRID-WADDINGTON 3,
CHATEAUGAY 2
In the Section X Class D Volleyball Championship,
Chateaugay got off to a hot and dominating start with
solid play at the net to win the first set 25-8. In the
second set, the Yellow Jackets adjusted their net play
and counterattack to build a 12-point lead. Chateauguy
rallied to within 23-18, before MW sealed a 25-18 win.
In the third set, Chateaugay broke from a 19-18 lead,
scoring six of the last seven points for a 25-19 win.
The Jackets controlled Set 4, with a dominating 25-9
win, tying the match at 2-2. In the 5th and deciding
set, Madrid-Waddington opened a five-point lead,
finishing with a sinking blast to seal a 15-10 win...

kills, Sophia Nemier 14 kills, Vicki Titus 21 digs, and
Nevaya Adams 21 assists and 2 blocks.
M-W Coach Charlie French said, “Our senior leadership
tonight with Lillan Todd and Erica Bates helped us
rally. The whole team really received well and served
consistently. We started gaining confidence in the
second set with some big hits and blocks. Kaitlyn Putman
and Madison VanGorden were able to put together some
hits, and Kaitlyn kept placing the ball where they
couldn't defend it. I can't say enough about how strong
Keianna Webb played as our setter, nearly every ball
went through her hands as we battled all five sets.
Lillan Todd, Erica Bates, Baylee Skinner and Kaitlyn
Putman took turns blocking for almost two hours of play
as Chateaugay sent hit after hit. We have been in
five-set nights many times, and our confidence and
adrenaline seem to improve as we go. We finally gained
an edge to get that win in the fourth. We didn't make
errors in the fifth set and forced Chateaugay to earn
all their points. Webb, Putman, Bates and VanGorden all
served without errors in the fifth. and the team
defended their serving.”
