MALONE 2, MASSENA 1
After the first five innings of scoreless baseball,
Massena’s Jake Firnstein drove in Nathan Barcomb to give
the Raiders a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth. Malone’s
Owen Burditt drove in Trent Carriero in the bottom of
the sixth to tie the game. In the bottom of the seventh,
Logan Peck belted a lead-off triple. Strategically, the
Raiders walked the next two batters to load the bases,
hoping to set up a force play and prevent the winning
run at home plate. But Carriero crossed up the move by
singling in the game-winning and championship-winning
run, securing the Huskies’ 2-1 win over Massena in the
Section X Class A Baseball Championship. Malone (12-3
overall) will play the Section III champions (TBD) at
Onondaga Community College on June 1st at 6:00 p.m.

Rick Chatland's single to left in the bottom of the 7th
walked it off for top-seeded Salmon River, beating
#4-seeded Gouverneur 7-6, in the Section X Class B
semifinals. Salmon River broke open a 1-0 game in the
fourth inning with a five-run outburst, only to have
Gouverneur counter with five runs in the next inning and
tie the game 6-6 in the sixth inning, before Chatland’s
game-ending blow in the seventh.
OGDENSBURG 4, POTSDAM 3
Four times with the bases empty and down 3-2 in the
bottom of the seventh, Ogdensburg was down to its final
strike against Potsdam in the Section X Class B
semifinals. But a single by Hayden McDonald, followed by
an RBI double from Tyler Sovie and a walk-off RBI single
from Luca Labella catapulted the #2-seeded Blue Devils
to a 4-3 win over the third-seeded Sandstoners, and a
date with Salmon River for the B title. Camden Griffith
collected to hits for OFA. Potsdam had held a 3-1 lead,
by scoring all its runs in the third and had just four
hits for the game.

SALMON RIVER 12, OFA 0
Caiden Cartier spun a one-hit shutout and struck out 10
batters in the Shamrocks’ 12-0 victory over Ogdensburg
for their second-straight Section X Class B
championship. Salmon River put up runs in each of their
at-bats in the five-inning, runs-shortened win. The
Shamrocks plated three runs in the first, another in the
second, five big runs in the third and three more scores
in the fourth. Evan Collette drove in two runs with a
hit left field that launched the Rocks in the first
inning. Jared Rollins (2 hits) stole home in the second
inning to expand the lead to 4-0. SR blew the game open
in the third, starting with an infield grounder that
scored Branson Bero. Cartier’s line drive added two more
and Rollins added another. Luke Miller (3 RBIs) then
singled to open a 9-0 lead. Cartier, Bero and Collette
each collected two RBIs. Salmon River (12-2) advances to
Class B state tournament play to face Section II’s
Ichabod Crane.

Brushton-Moira broke away from a 7-5 lead through five
innings, scoring six runs in the sixth, then held off
the Yellow Jackets’ rally attempt in the seventh to
score a 13-8 victory over Madrid-Waddington in the
Section X Class C quarterfinals. The Jackets’ offense
pounced first with three runs in the first inning, but
immediately gave away the lead when the Panthers
countered with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame.
Caleb Averill doubled and later scored in the third
inning to tie the game 4-4. Trailing 13-5, the Jackets
launched their last inning with eight batters that
produced three back-to-back runs, before running out of
momentum. Jack Bailey stroked four of the Jackets’ nine
hits. Dustin Barse in the lead-off position had three hit,
while Tristan Russell and Dustin Baker collected two hits each
for the Panthers, who will face top-seeded
Norwood-Norfolk in the semifinals.
CANTON 19, ST. LAWRENCE CENTRAL 4
Three multi-run innings to start the game, launched the
Canton Golden Bears past St. Lawrence Central 19-4 in
the Section X Class C quarterfinals. Capitalizing in
part on nine Larries’ errors, the Bears generated seven
runs in the first inning, and six runs each in the
second and third frames to stack up a 19-run lead. The
Larries scored all of their runs in the fifth, but came
up short in trying to prevent a run-shortened contest.
Freshman pitcher Zadok Roiger held St. Lawrence to just
two hits over five innings. Eric Zuhlsdorf belted a home
run, drove in four runs and scored three times. Charlie
Todd delivered two hits including a triple and three
RBIs. Nate Romano stroked a single and a double, and
knocked in two runs. Third-seeded Canton travels to face
Tupper Lake in the semifinals. John Snyder and Evan
Labrake had the hits for St. Lawrence.
CANTON 11, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 4
Canton produced book-end outbursts – five runs to send a
shockwave in the first, then five runs in the seventh to
ensure the win – as the third-seeded Bears delivered an
11-4 triumph over top-seeded Norwood-Norfolk for the
Section X Class C championship. Defensively, “4" was the
magic number for Golden Bears’ pitching, winning all
three playoff games while the opponent was held to four
runs (17-4 vs. St. Lawrence, 6-4 vs. Tupper, 11-4 vs.
N-N). Canton pitcher Charlie Todd went the distance,
allowing four earned runs, while scattering four hits,
walking five and striking out 11 Flyers. The Bears’
offense was aided by an uncharacteristic seven N-N
errors. The Flyers scratched for a run in each of the
first and second innings, and crept as close as 6-4
going into the 7th, when the Bears slammed the door.
Luke Wentworth ripped three hits and Todd helped his own
cause with a pair of hits. Noah collected two hits and
three RBIs for the Flyers.
Norwood-Norfolk's Andrew Favreau (12) slid a
chalk-hugger up the first-baseline that kicked up a
cloud of dust for several feet. Favreau beat the play at
first, scrambled to third on the overthrow, then
scampered home on another overthrow.
NORWOOD-NORFOLK 17, BRUSHTON-MOIRA
4
The Flyers scored three runs in the first, expanded the
lead to 7-0 in the third, then sealed their Section X
Class C semifinal win with a 10-run eruption in the
fourth inning, in a 17-4 win over the Panthers.
Bond and Richards provided two hits each, while Andrew
Favreau and Malone each scored three runs. B-M
scratched a run in the second, but 3-1 was as close as
they would get, before adding three runs on all four
hits for the game in the fourth inning. Dustin
Baker scored two of the four runs.
CANTON 6, TUPPER LAKE 4
Third-seeded Canton emerged with a 6-4 win vs. Tupper Lake
in the Section X Class C semifinals, to earn a berth in
the title game vs. Norwood-Norfolk. The Golden Bears got
behind the six-hit, 11-strikeout performance of mound
ace David Zuhlsdorf. After the Lumberjacks jumped out to
a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Canton pounced with
four runs in the bottom of the frame. The Jack scratched
for a run in the third and another in the fourth, to
draw even at 4-4. However, the Bears tacked on a run in
the fourth and another in the fifth inning, the
Zuhlsdorf fanned Tupper Lake’s final four batters of the
game to secure the win. Luke Wentworth sliced three
hits, while Erich Zuhlsdorf, Nate Romano and Charlie
Todd delivered two hits each for the Bears.

INNINGS)
After reaching on an error to start the bottom of the
8th inning, Heuvelton’s Brandon Pray raced home to score
on a wild pitch, as his Bulldogs walked off with a
thrilling 5-4 victory over #5-seeded Chateaugay in the
Section X Class D quarterfinals. Fourth-seeded Heuvelton
opened by scoring three runs in the third inning with
Pray, Levi Biller and Luke Thornhill crossing the plate.
Chateaugay countered with a pair of runs in the fourth
on Xavier Lamica’s sacrifice fly and James Campbell’s
RBI single. In the fifth, Heuvelton extended its lead to
4-2 when Jake Ladouceur knocked in Reid Doyle. But
Chateaugay fought back with a pair of runs, aided by an
error, allowing Lamica and Boyea to score, knotting the
game at 4-4. Chateaugay put runners on first and second
bases in the top of the eighth, but did not score,
before Heuvelton walked it off in the bottom of the
frame. Heuvelton will now advance to face top-seeded
Parishville Hopkinton in the Class D semifinals.
PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 13, ST. REGIS FALLS 1
Parishville-Hopkinton scored in all four innings, while
pitchers Avery Zenger and Ray Voisine combined for a
one-hitter delivering the Panthers to 13-1 victory over
St. Regis Falls in the Section X Class D quarterfinals.
Parishville-Hopkinton scored four runs in the first
inning, one run in the second, then four more in the
third and fourth innings. The Saints’ lone run came in
the second innings. In the first inning, Avery Zenger
led off with a single, then scored on John Snell’s RBI
triple. Jon Snell tripled, Jordon Snell hit a sacrifice
fly. Julian Wenzel doubled and Nate Phippen drove him
home, as the Panthers took a 4-0 lead in the first
inning. The Saints scored their lone run in the top of
the second, after a walk to open the inning. In the
bottom of the second, Trent Briggs doubled and Zenger
drove him home to increase the Panthers’ lead to 5-1. In
the third, four consecutive singles produced four more
runs. In the 4th, three straight singles were followed
by Zenger’s double and Voisine’s single that plated four
more runs. The Panthers advance to face the Heuvelton
Bulldogs in the Section X Class D semifinals.
HARRISVILLE 17, MORRISTOWN 1
A 12-run outburst in the third inning helped catapult
the Harrisville Pirates to a 17-1 victory over the
Morristown Green Rockets in the Section X Class D
quarterfinals. Twelve consecutive batters led off the
inning, before the Rockets retired the next three
batters. Nolan Sullivan scored four runs and stroked a
double. Aiden Chartrand touched up for two runs on two
hits. Tanner Sullivan scored three runs on a double and
a single. Aaron Parow and Joe Schrodt also had hits.
Harrisville advances to face Lisbon in the Section X
Class D semifinals. The two teams will meet for the
third time this season, with the Knights having won both
contests during the regular season.
LISBON 11, HERMON-DEKALB 0
Lisbon pitcher Lucas Gravlin scattered four hits, in
guiding the Lisbon Golden Knights to an 11-0 victory
over the Hermon-DeKalb Green Demons in the Section X
Class D quarterfinals. Lisbon scored five runs in the
second inning, three runs in the third, another run in
the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to seal the
victory. Leading the Knights’ hitting attack were Isaiah
White and Gabriel Smith with two hits each. Gravlin and
Matt Bleau each had three RBIs. Hermon-DeKalb’s hits
were scattered among four different players. The
second-seeded Golden Knights will advance to half face
#3-seeded Harrisville in the semifinals – their third
encounter of the season, with the Knights winning both
contests during the regular season.

Backs against the wall, both Parishville-Hopkinton and
Lisbon, Class D's top two team in the regular season,
led, blew leads, rallied and battled it out, with the
Panthers emerging from a 10-9 walkoff victory in the
Section X Class D championship. Lisbon struck for
six runs spread over the first five innings to pile up
6-0 lead. The Panthers exploited chinks in the
Knights' armor, first loading the bases, then scoring
four runs in a row on wild pitches and passed balls.
Then P-H's Julian Wenzel ripped a shot through the
middle, tying the game 6-6 through five innings.
Lucas Gravlin's infield pop-up was dropped, putting
Lisbon up 7-6 in the top of the sixth. However,
Avery Zenger drove the ball up the middle to knot the
game at 7–7. Jordan Snell dropped a tweener that drove
in two more: 9-7 PH through six. In a game
littered with 12 errors combined, a Panther throw-away
at third allowed Lisbon to tie 9-9. Finally, with
the winning run at third base, Ray Voisine delivered the
game-winning line-drive single to right. The Panthers
walked-it-off in a 10-9 slugfest over Lisbon to capture
their first Section X Class D crown since 2012.
