CHATEAUGAY WINS TIEBREAKERS TO REACH FINAL, FINISHES 2ND IN STATE

BULLDOGS TAKE BACK SECTION X TITLE; FIFTH CROWN IN SIX YEARS

Ogdensburg’s Elissa St. Germaine (23) goes up for the tip over the hands of Chateaugay’s Cindy Harrigan (21).  The Bulldogs win completed an undefeated season within Section X (19-0).  Chateaugay won all matches 3-0, except a 3-1 win over Gouverneur.  The title win was the fifth in six years for the Bulldogs.  Cindy Harrigan cranked 17 points, while St. Germain counted with 10 points, seven aces and five kills for the Blue Devils (12-8).  Both teams advance to the State playoffs in Shenendehowa High School on Saturday.

One of the points for Malone:  the ball hangs at the top of the tape and edges downward on the Chateaugay side.   Cindy Harrigan led Chateaugay to another three game sweep with ten points and eleven assists, as the Bulldogs ran away with 25-11, 25-16 and 25-19 wins.
 

O.F.A. RALLIES FOR FINAL TWO GAMES TO OVERTAKE RAIDERS

BLUE DEVILS CLAIM CLASS C TITLE IN TOUGH 3-1 WIN OVER SALMON RIVER

The Section X Class C Champion Blue Devils avenged two earlier regular season losses to the Shamrocks in clinching the title.  After losing Game One, the Blue Devils were sinking quickly in Game Two, 20-11, but suddenly rebounded to sweep the rest of the way. Jhenna King rocked 19 points, 11 kills and two aces to top Blue Devil scorers.  Rachel Benedict paced the Shamrocks with 18 points, seven aces and three kills.  The Shamrocks finished the season with an 8-10 overall record.
 

SALMON RIVER UPSETS TOP-SEEDED M-W JACKETS IN SEMIFINAL SWEEP

Madrid-Waddington’s Abbey Shoen (13) dives for the ball on the low shot from the Salmon River attack line. The Yellow Jackets never led in Game 1, although they rallied back to come within a point at 16-15. In Game 2, M-W rolled back from an early 5-3 hole to take a 9-5 lead, only to see the Shamrocks prevail beyond the 25-point limit, taking the game at 26-24. Rachel Benedict led the Shamrocks with 16 service points, 19 sets, six kills, three assists and eight aces. Leslie Loran added 20 sets, 14 points, 120 aces, five assists and six kills. Brittany Jacobs followed with 24 sets, eight aces, five assist and three kills. M-W senior Abbey Shoen polished off her last high school volleyball game with 12 points, seven kills and two digs. Katie Lanning added 19 sets, seven points, three assists and three kills. Madrid-Waddington finished its improved season at 11-6 overall. Salmon River plays Ogdensburg in the Class C final.
 

OGDENSBURG ENDS GOUVERNEUR SEASON IN QUARTERFINALS 3-0

 Ogdensburg's Jhenna King smacks the ball an opening in the heart of the Gouverneur side of the court.  King led the way for the Blue Devils with eight kills.  Gouverneur finished its season without a win at 0-17 overall.  Meanwhile, the Blue Devils advance to host their semifinal against #3 seeded Canton.

OGDENSBURG ELIMINATES CANTON IN TOUGH THREE-GAME SEMIFINAL

The #2 seeded Ogdensburg Blue Devils received a solid challenge in all three games, but swept the #3 seeded Canton Bears, 25-22, 25-20 and 25-19 in the Section X Class C semifinals. Ogdensburg’s Jhenna King delivered a match-best 12 kills, while Aubrey Badlam pounded eight points, two kills, an ace and had seven assists. Charette Spooner dished up 14 assists. For Canton Heather Lottie led the way two digs and five kills. Rachel Towne had 27 sets and three points. However, Ogdensburg held Canton to just nine kills in the match. Canton finished its improved season at 8-9 overall.
 

CANTON ELIMINATES TUPPER LAKE
IN QUARTERFINAL SWEEP 3-0

SALMON RIVER SWEEPS POTSDAM'S SEASON AWAY IN 3-0 SEMIFINAL WIN

The #5-seeded Potsdam Sandstoners did not make it easy in any game, but #4-seeded Salmon River swept their Section X Class C quarterfinal match in three games 25-21, 25-20 and 25-19.  Leslie Loran led the Shamrocks with nine aces and 15 points.  Potsdam finished its season with a 5-16 record overall.  Salmon River advances to the Class C semifinals with travel plans to top-seeded Madrid-Waddington.

#2 B-M PANTHERS END SEASON FOR #3 COUGARS IN SEMIFINAL SWEEP

The second-seeded Brushton-Moira Panthers cruised to an easy three-game sweep over third-seeded Edwards-Knox in the Section X Class D semifinal on Tuesday. The Panthers won25-11, 25-10 and 25-10. The Panthers, who improved to 12-5 overall for the season, will face top seeded Chateaugay for the overall Class D title. Bentley Keck was the match’s top scorer with 15 points and eight aces, while Candace and Brandy Dufrane and Valerie Powell all added ten points each The Cougars finished their season at 1-16.
 

CHATEAUGAY REPEATS AS CLASS D CHAMPS SWEEPING B-M PANTHERS


The Chateaugay Bulldogs continued their domination at the net with a spike past the Brushton-Moira defenders.  Chateaugay won its 17th consecutive match and remained undefeated in capturing the Section X Class D title with a 3-0 sweep of the Panthers.  (Dustin Fenlong photo)  Match Gallery
