RAIDERS RALLY BACK TO RECLAIM CLASS A CROWN 2-1


The Red Raiders celebrate after Nate Pichette (middle) scored his second goal of the game in the 60th minute delivering  top-seeded Massena to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over the Malone Huskies for the Section X Class A Championship.  Massena draws a bye in the first round of the state sectional playoffs and will host the winner of the Section II vs. Section III playoff.  Malone finished its season with a 6-11-1 record.  (Dustin Fenlong photo)  Game Gallery

Malone's Brandon Aanderud (16) drives the ball past a fallen Massena keeper Tom Ward to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.  However, Malone was unable to load another goal the rest of the way as Ward stopped seven other shots.  Malone goalie Chris Beebe finished with nine saves.
 

MOHONASEN TOPS MASSENA IN STATE REGION II FINAL 1-0


Massena goaltender Tom Ward leaps through a crowd of Warriors to punch away the ball from trouble.  Mohonssen's Tylor Ralbovsky (5) redirected a sharp cross from A.J. Przekop at 7:12 of the first half to stand as the game's only goal in a 1-0 win the in the New York State Region II Championship at Potsdam High School..  Ward finished with five saves in the game. Massena's Connor Riley (2) settles the ball of his chest while taking a hit from a Mohonasen player at his right.  The tough Warriors' defense kept Massena outside the 18-yard box except twice in the first half.  The Raiders were unable to get a shot on goal in the first half.    The Red Raiders wrapped up their season with a 15-5 record.  Mohonasen advances to the New York State Class A Final Four with a 15-8-1 mark.

POTSDAM BOUNCES WILDCATS IN CLASS B SEMIFINAL 5-0

Potsdam's Ryan Bercume (9) slips between two Gouverneur defenders including Jordan Sergel (13).  Riche Thakur and Jordan LaPoint netted a goal and an assist each.  Marty Lafleur, Scott Bartenstein and Chris Roll delivered markers for the Sandstoners (16-2).  Ben Steinberg needed just two saves for the shutout.  Gouverneur finished its season at 7-11-1.

3-1 IN CLASS B SEMIFINAL

while Trent Durocher had seven saves in the Canton net.
 

HORNETS STOP POTSDAM 2-0 IN CLASS B STATE OPENER


High-kicking matchup as Potsdam's Chris Roll battles a Plattsburgh player for the high bounce.  Plattsburgh defeated Potsdam 2-0 in the opening round of the New York State Class B boys soccer playoffs on Wednesday at SUNY Canton.

Potsdam's Ryan Bercume (9) goes down while a Plattsburgh defender climbs over him.  Plattsburgh's stiff defense throttled most of Potsdam's scoring chances.  Potsdam managed just two shots on Hornet goalie Justin LaVarnway Potsdam goalie Ben Steinberg made seven saves in the first half to keep his team in a 0-0 deadlock at intermission.  Plattsburgh's speedy attack kept the pressure on the Sandstoners until Jordon Conroy threaded a perfect through-ball leaving Michael Bennett alone to blast a shot past Steinberg in the 60th minute. Plattsburgh got their insurance marker with five minutes left.
 

POTSDAM RALLIES 3 TIMES IN FINAL 11 MIN. FOR "B" TITLE


Canton’s Kristian Daly slide tackles the ball away from Potsdam’s Ryan Bercume. The Potsdam Sandstoners' championship team.  Goalie Ben Steinberg kept Canton off the scoreboard with seven saves, until the Sandstoners could find the scoring touch late in the game.  Trent Durocher made five saves and the Canton defense mesmerized Potsdam for 69 minutes till the first goal.  Canton finishes its season 9-7-1 for Coach Matt Caufield.
 

GOUVERNEUR PULLS OFF
ROAD UPSET VS. SALMON 2-1


Gouverneur's Jordan Sergel and Salmon River' Hank Delile battle for the ball near the sideline.  The Wildcats upset the Shamrocks 2-1 in the Class B Play-In.  Dan Gerow put Salmon River on top in the 10th minute of play, but Nick Cotton-Baez tied the game with just two minutes remaining in the first half.  Matt Weaver jammed in the game winner with just over eight minutes left in the game.  (Eric Meacham photo)

Heuvelton’s Andrew Jackson (4) clears the ball up field past Madrid-Waddington’s Cody Sharlow (6).  Heuvelton established a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals by Jackson and Sean Kelly.  Madrid-Waddington got a goal back in the final two minutes of the half when Colbert slipped a shot through a screen to make it 2-1.  Aaron Cote tied the game around 14 minutes into the second half.  Both goalies made several key saves.  Jordan Kendall made 13 stops for the Jackets, while Jon Cooper made 19 saves for the Bulldogs (6-11-2).
 

JACKETS SEASON CLOSES IN TIGHT 2-1 N.Y. PLAYOFF LOSS


Madrid-Waddington's Aaron Cote leaps and times his back kick to deliver a goal into the Northern Adirondack net.  However, it was the Yellow Jackets lone goal as the Bobcats prevailed 2-1 in the opening round of the New York State Class C playoffs.

A Northern Adirondack player slides up from a tangle over the ball and carries on with the play.  The Bobcats improved to
10-7-3 in eliminating the Yellow Jackets in the first round of the state playoffs.  Tyler LaValley netted the game-winning goal to break a 1-1 tie in the final 11 minutes.  Jared Tetrault got the other goal to open the scoring in the 24th minute.  Brad Chester

JACKETS ZIP UP CLASS C TITLE BEATING BRUSHTON-MOIRA 1-0

B-M PANTHERS BOUNCE BACK TO TIP FLYERS IN "C" SEMI 2-1


Brushton-Moira’s Cody O’Connor (23) celebrates one of his two goals on the day after tucking the ball into the upper corner.  Norwood-Norfolk jumped to a 1-0 lead on a Billy Jackson goal from Tom Plumb in the second minute.  However, Cody O'Connor's one-man effort beat the defense and brought Brushton-Moira back to a 1-1 tie a minute later.  O'Connor's second goal in the 18th minute was the clincher in the Panthers 2-1 win in the Class C semifinals.  (Eric Foote photo)

The #2-seeded Flyers finished at 5-12-1.

P-H PANTHERS & HARRISVILLE "D" CO-CHAMPS; P-H ADVANCES


The Parishville-Hopkinton celebrate by hoisting goalie Dennis Tebo into the air after surviving a two overtimes and 7-6 penalty-kick shootout.  The Panthers and Harrisville Pirates battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw and thus declared Section X Class D Co-Champions!  However, for the second year in a row, the Panthers will advance to the State Sectional playoffs after winning the shootout.  With a first-round bye, the Panthers move directly to the Region II final at Potsdam Central on Friday at 7:00 p.m.  (Eric Foote photo)

With Parishville-Hopkinton’s Titus Hammel (11) breaking in alone on Harrisville goalkeeper Tom Coloney, Pirate sweeper Vinny Avallone (18) sprinted across in a hurry to make a game-saving stop in booming the ball away.  Harrisville's Nate Wood slammed the first goal on a cross from Chris Thomas in the game's 5th minute.  Four minutes later, Coloney came out to cut down the attacking Mark Norman, but the Panther striker lifted the ball over the goalie and bounced it into the net to tie the game 1-1.  Coloney made five saves. P-H goalie Dennis Tebo made 13 saves, but both goalies had an equal number of game-saving stops to force the game into overtime.
 

HARRISVILLE NIPS H-D DEMONS IN CLASS D SEMIFINAL 1-0


Hermon-DeKalb goalie Richie Martin skies and collides with Harrisville left winger Server Mustafaev (7) to knock away a possible scoring threat.  Pirate Josh Hartle nailed the game's lone goal with 16 minutes remaining and the Pirates hung on for a 1-0 win in the Section X Class D semifinals.  Martin had eight saves between the pipes.  (Mike Webb photo)  Game Gallery

Parishville-Hopkinton keeper Dennis Tebo dives and gets a piece of the shot, which deflected off the goalpost for the save during the shootout.  Tebo made seven saves in regulation.  Bulldog goalie Eric Fleury registered eight saves.  Mark Norman put the Panthers ahead in the first half when he scored on a penalty kick.  Chateaugay attacked hard in the second half, collecting two goals in a span of just over 60 seconds to jump into a 2-1 lead.  Alex Stalter scored one of the goals, while assisting to Eli Franze for the other.  Bicknell's tying goal came with 8:04 left.  Panthers play Edwards-Knox in the Class D semifinals.
 

CAMPBELL, HARTLE GOALS LIFT PIRATES PAST EAGLES 2-0


Harrisville's Nate Wood (12) is chased and angled away from the net by three Clifton-Fine defenders as Wood circles toward Clifton-Fine goalie Cole Tristram.  Tristam made 12 saves to keep the Eagles close.  But Coal Campbell and Josh Hartle slammed the goals, while Tom Coloney turned back six shots to preserve the shutout as Harrisville beat Clifton-Fine 2-0 in the Class D quarterfinals.  (Fenlong/Webb photo)  Game Gallery

BULLDOGS JETTISON ROCKETS FROM PLAYOFFS IN 9-0 ROMP


The Morristown goaltender James Wilson extends up and plucks the ball out of the air before Chateaugay attackers can head up to get it.  Seventh-seeded Chateaugay dominated #10 Morristown in the opening round of the Section X Class D playoffs on Wednesday with a resounding 9-0 win.  Wilson made 14 saves, but was pummeled with 23 Bulldog shots.

Morristown's (4) Skyler Cobb fakes right then crosses over to the left to catch a Chateaugay defender leaning the wrong way.  But the game leaned all Chateaugay's way.  The Bulldogs rocked Morristown (1-15 overall) for seven goals in the first half.  Alex Stalter netted a hat trick.  Drew Boyea lifted a goal and supplied four assists.  Chateaugay advances to play #2-seed Parishville-Hopkinton in the Class D quarterfinals.
 

PANTHERS HELD TO 3 SHOTS AS CHAZY WINS 1-0 IN ELITE 8

Chazy's Shea Howley (17) gets tripped up from behind on a takeaway attempt by the Parishville-Hopkinton defense.  Santor finished with three saves.  Dennis Tebo made 10 saves to keep the Panthers close.  Chazy improved to 21-0 and advanced to the State Final Four at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta .  The Panthers' season ended at 12-7-3. 
 

NORMAN JAMS WINNING GOALS FOR P-H IN OVERTIME SEMI WIN

H-D DEMONS SURVIVE LISBON IN 4-2 SHOOTOUT IN Q-FINAL


Lisbon's Brandon Robinson leaps for the header as Hermon-DeKalb goaltender Richie Martin braces for the shot.  Robinson knocked home the tying goal with six minutes left in regulation to force overtime and an eventual shootout.  Hermon-DeKalb outshot Lisbon 4-2 in penalty kicks to advance to the Section X Class D semifinals.  Dylan Amo scored in the first half and netted a goal in the shootout to lead the Green Demons who play Harrisville next.  (Fenlong/Webb photo)  Game Gallery

Hermon-DeKalb's Logan Allen (10) primes for the direct kick over the Lisbon defense.  Allen, Shawn Brown and Tyler Amo added successful penalty kicks in the shootout for the #5-seeded Demons.  Lisbon goalkeeper Zach Premo secured 15 saves, while H-D's Richie Martin collected ten shots.  Lisbon finished their season at 11-6-2 overall.  Hermon-DeKalb moved on to face Harrisville in the Class D semifinals.
 

CORBINE LEADS E-K COUGARS TO 2-1 WIN VS. COLTS IN 2 O.T.


Colton-Pierrepont's Patrick Reilly and Chad Hogle (25) close in as Edwards-Knox's Jon Corbine (14) winds up for a shot.  Corbine scored both goals, including a blasted shot deflected off a Colts' defender in the lower right corner for the game winner in the second overtime.  Edwards-Knox the Section X Class D quarterfinal won 2-1.  Reilly scored the Colts' lone goal at 3:12.   Game Gallery   NCSN Game Broadcast

CLIFTON-FINE USES DEFENSE & EIBERT GOAL IN PLAYOFF WIN

Clifton-Fine keeper Cole Tristram slides after the loose ball with Hammond’s James Sheridan (25) streaking in.  Clifton-Fine defense stifled the Red Devils with Cole Tristram needing just five saves for the win.  Taylor Kenyon stopped 13 of 14 shots in the Hammond net.  Hammond's season came to a close with a 4-13 overall record.  Clifton-Fine advances to the Class D quarterfinals against the top-seeded Harrisville Pirates.
 

C-P COLTS OUST ST. REGIS FALLS 5-0 IN PLAY-IN OPENER

The sixth-seeded Colton-Pierrepont Colts jammed four first-half goals in cruising to a 5-0 win over St. Regis Falls in the opening round of the Section X Class D playoffs on Wednesday. The Colts’ defense prevented the Saints from any shots on Colts keeper Nick Monast. James Reichert got the game started with the first goal. Alex Ensby banged home a goal and chipped in three assists to lead the Colts. Gavin Dominy added a pair of goals to sink the Saints who finished the season 0-13. Colton- Pierrepont advances to play third-seeded Edwards-Knox in the Class D quarterfinals.
