HEUVELTON TOPS C-P COLTS
2-0 IN NON-LEAGUE FINALE

BOLIS GOAL: CANTON UPSETS O.F.A. DEVILS 2-1 IN OVERTIME

Canton’s James Chase (2) slides and clears the ball away before Ogdensburg could get a shot off.  Both teams scored in the first half.  Despite Devil dominance early, John O'Connor won out in a scramble to the net to give Canton a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.  Ogdensburg countered just minutes later when Erik Whitcomb toed home the equalizer, set up by an elusive sideline dribble from Eric Sweeney.  Durocher made 16 saves in the Canton net, while Brendan Merna turned aside 14 shots for the Blue Devils.
 

BRUSHTON-MOIRA UPSETS C-P COLTS IN 3-0 SHUTOUT WIN

CHATEAUGAY UPENDS M-W JACKETS 2-1 IN EAST DIVISION

Madrid-Waddington's Rob Lacombe (3) slides across to jab the ball away from Chateaugay's Drew Boyea (13).  Boyea broke a 1-1 tie by slamming home the game winner on a feed by Brad Spinner, seven minutes into the second half.  Spinner pocketed the Bulldogs' first goal in the third minute of the game.  Eric Dwyer made four saves in the win, while Jordan Kendall stopped seven shots fort the Yellow Jackets.
 

MASSENA CLINCHES CENTRAL IN 2-1 THRILLER OVER MALONE

BATTLE OF THE PURPLE: COLTS & BULLDOGS TIE 2-2

Heuvelton's Devin Foster celebrates after the David Putman's shot bounces into the corner of the net behind Colts keeper Nick Monast for a 1-0 lead.  Putman's second goal with just seven minutes remaining tied the game 2-2.  Patrick Reilly netted a first half goal and Gavin Dominy put the Colts ahead with a second-half goal.  Monast made 12 saves for Colton-Pierrepont, while Cooper stopped 18 for Heuvelton.
 

MALONE TIPS GOUVERNEUR 2-1 TO CLIMB INTO TIE FOR 6TH

Gouverneur's Chris Stannard (3) tips the ball away from behind a Malone attacker in the defensive zone.  Brandon Aanderud and Ondrej Camdra each scored a goal in the first 13 minutes of the game to post Malone to a 2-0 lead.  Lee French scored the lone goal for Gouverneur.  In goal, LaPage made 10 saves for Malone, while Nat Burgess stopped 14 shots for the Wildcats.
 

M-W JACKETS UPSET SALMON RIVER 1-0 IN EAST COLLISION

LISBON & HERMON-DEKALB BATTLE TO 1-1 DEADLOCK


Hermon-DeKalb’s Tyler Amo (3) controls the ball while stumbling past Lisbon’s Andrew Martin (9).  The Green Demons' Shawn Brown scored an unassisted goal in the 37th minute of the first half to knot the game 1-1, then both teams played a physical defensive game through overtime to forge a 1-1 tie.  Brandon Robinson scored unassisted for Lisbon.

  Potsdam's Jordan Lapoint (11) slide and punches the ball just out of the reach of Ogdensburg goaltender Brendan Merna.  Mrena saved 15 of 17 shots he faced.  Stoners' Ben Steinberg stopped four shots. Potsdam squeezed out a 2-1 win over the Blue Devils to keep pace with first-place Massena.

POTSDAM ENDS MASSENA'S UNBEATEN RUN WITH 2-0 WIN


Section X's leading scorer Nate Pichette (red) takes a roll over Potsdam's Chris Roll as the two collide in a scramble for the ball near Potsdam's end line.  The Sandstoners, ranked 13th in Class B in the latest N.Y. State Sportswriters Poll, dealt the first loss of the season to the Massena Red Raiders, ranked 13th in the state in Class A.  Potsdam won the game 2-0 on two Ryan Burcume goals.  Bercume scored in the final minute of the first half and 11th minute of the second half.

Hermon-DeKalb’s Adam Hicks (12) chases down the loose ball along with Morristown’s Dane Trombly (1).  The Demons led 4-1 at the half, then for the second time this season went on a second-half scoring binge.  Shawn Brown buried two goals and chipped in an assist.  Tyler Amo ripped a pair of goals.  Logan Allen provided a goal and two assists.  Other goals were scored by Connor Whitton, Clyde Shireman, Cody Cleveland, Chris Wentzel, Brandon Rust and Jason Streeter.  Will Griffith prevented the shutout with the Rockets lone goal.
 

E-K COUGARS BOUNCE BACK TO BEAT LISBON ATOP EAST

P-H PANTHERS WIN BATTLE ATOP EAST, BEAT SALMON 1-0

Parishville-Hopkinton’s Mark Norman (9) celebrates after scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal early in the second half.  Panther defense held the Shamrocks to just three shots.  Goalie Dennis Tebo made all three saves.  The win left the Panthers (5-0)  in sole ownership of first place in the East Division, while Salmon River (4-1) slipped to second.
 

TWO IN A ROW: N-N FLYERS NIP MALONE 2-1 IN OVERTIME

Potsdam’s Noah Throop (2) sprints to the corner looking to put some space between himself and Malone’s Michael Welch (21).Taylor Hazen drilled the game's lone goal with just over four minutes to play to give Potsdam its fifth divisional win in seven games this season.  Grant Sharlow assisted.  Ben Steinberg collected a 16-save shutout, while Chris Beebe of Malone stopped 25 of 26 shots in the loss.
 

P-H PANTHERS STAY UNBEATEN IN EAST BEATING B-M 2-0

POTSDAM NETS 3 STRAIGHT IN 2ND HALF TO BEAT WILDCATS


Potsdam's Taylor Hazen (white) slips past the defense and goes toe-to-toe with Gouverneur goalkeeper Nat Burgess for an attempted shot on goal.  Burgess drove the ball away on the diving collision.  The Sandstoners scored three second-half goals to break away from a 2-1 lead to defeat the visiting Wildcats 5-1.  Hazen scored Potsdam's fifth goal with about 2:00 left.  Grant Sharlow scored two goals and assisted on another for Potsdam.  Devin Gruneisen and Marty LaFleur also scored for Potsdam.  (Bob LaRue photo) Game Gallery

Burgess makes another diving save on a tip otherwise destined for the lower corner of the net.  Potsdam peppered Burgess with 27 shots. He made 22 saves between the pipes.

CHATEAUGAY BULLDOGS BITE ST. REGIS FALLS 5-0 IN EAST


St. Regis Falls goaltender Jake Wheeler leaps high to snare the direct shot on net.  The Chateaugay Bulldogs slammed five goals and picked up the shutout in a 5-0 East Division win over the Saints. Chateaugay struck with the game’s first goal in the 9th minute - which proved to be the game winner -- as Eli Franze delivered the game’s opening blast off an assist from Brad Spinner. Then in the 24th minute, the Bulldogs added to the lead on Ben Trombley's first goal of the season on a feed from Ryan LaBare. Insurance came just three minutes later when Eric Dwyer hit the mesh on a setup from Alex Slatler and a 3-0 lead going into the break. The Bulldogs attacked quickly in the second half, when Spinner got goal on a hookup with Dwyer The Bulldogs ended their offensive attack on the Franze’s second goal of the game with Stalter picking up his second assist in the 54th minute. With the win, the Bulldogs get back to the .500 mark, while St. Regis Falls dropped to 0-3.
 

STEINBERG & GRUNEISEN LEAD POTSDAM PAST CANTON IN O.T.

STONE'S HEADER REDIRECTS FLYERS TO FIRST WIN 3-2

Gouverneur’s Jordan Sergel (13) bangs together with the Flyers' Tom Plumb while going for the loose ball (4).  Ladouceur and James Purvis also netted goals in the first half for the Flyers, who saw the Wildcats bounce back to tie the game at 1-1 and 2-2 before ultimately claiming the win.  Flyers' Coach Don Peterson said he was proud of the hard work shown by his team which has been competitive in most games this season.  He hopes Stone's redirect will help redirect the Flyers' season, following their first regular league win.

LISBON NIPS HARRISVILLE TO TURN WEST INTO LOGJAM

Lisbon’s Brandon Robinson slammed the game’s only goal and Zach Premo prevented all four Harrisville shots from penetrating the net as the Golden Knights knocked off the previously-unbeaten Pirates in a 1-0 win. Robinson’s goal in the 57th minute helped produce a three-way tie atop the West Division between Lisbon, Harrisville and Edwards-Knox. Hermon-DeKalb with a resounding 7-2 comeback win over Hammond moved within a half-game of the leaders. Heuvelton (2-3 in the West) has regained form with back-to-back wins after three straight losses to open the season and now trails the leaders by just two games.

The Chateaugay Bulldogs opened the scoring in the 19th minute as Drew Boyea wrinkled the net off a pass from Brad Spinner and took the 1-0 lead into the break. The Brushton- Moira Panthers answered three minutes into the second half on a Mitchell Mayville goal to tie the game 1-1. The Bulldogs reclaimed the lead and eventual game winner just five minutes later when Eli Franze scored and Brad Spinner picked up his second assist. The Bulldogs iced the win in the 67th minute on a beautiful cross from Corey Richards and tapped into the net by Ryan Labare to give the Bulldogs the 3-1 win. The Bulldogs outshot the Panthers 21-10. Kyle Demers would make six saves in the winning effort, while Andrew Martin stopped 12 for the Panthers to keep his team in the contest.
 

P-H PANTHERS BOUNCE BACK TO BEAT BULLDOGS 2-1 IN O.T.

PENALTY KICK LIFTS LISBON PAST HERMON-DEKALB 1-0

WILDCATS & DEMONS STAY UNBEATEN WITH 1-0 VICTORIES

Gouverneur continued its rise in the Central Division surprising Canton 1-0. Brandon Raymo got the game’s only goal with just over six minutes remaining to stake the Wildcats to their first regular season win and a 3-1-2 record overall. Nat Burgess recorded five saves for the shutout win. Trent Durocher also stopped five shots among the six shots he faced.

Hermon-DeKalb kept its unbeaten regular season intact with a slim 1-0 win at Clifton-Fine. Tyler Amo lodged the game’s lone goal on a cross from Connor Whitton in the 48th minute to life the Demons’ record to 2-0, 4-2 overall. H-D goalie Richie Martin turned aside four shots in the shutout. With the Demons dominating the attack, Eagles’ Cole Tristram hauled in 13 of 14 shots between the pipes.

LISBON BLANKS C-F EAGLES BEHIND ARMSTRONG & PREMO

Massena boys soccer captains, midfielder David Henrie and goalie Tom Ward, accept the Bill O’Neill championship plaque from the O’Neill family.  Also scoring for Massena:  Nick and Nate Pichette each had a goal and an assist.  Justin Rushlow added a goal.  Massena won their semifinal 2-0 on Friday.
 

SALMON RIVER WINS O'NEILL CONSOLATION VS. PANTHERS

Salmon River’s Juan Carlos Alverez (10) fends off Parishville-Hopkinton’s Eric Zellwegger (21) to get a shot off.  Salmon River lost to Massena 3-0 in the semifinals, while Parishville-Hopkinton lost 1-0 to Massena in the opening round.  The Shamrocks improved to 2-1 overall, while P-H fell to 1-3-1.
 

MALONE BURIES LAST-SECOND GOAL TO FORGE OVERTIME TIE


Chateaugay's Corey Richards lofts a shot over a Malone defender for a shot on the Huskies' net.  Malone's Casey Warner won a scramble in front of the net and the ball trickled just over the line as the horn sounded to notch a tie and force overtime.  The game ended 2-2 in a non-league matchup.

The Chateaugay-Malone boys soccer rivalry was renewed in a season-opening non-league matchup on Wednesday. Neither team scored in the first half as defenses dominated before the break. It took only eight minutes into the 2nd half for the Bulldogs to strike first as Alex Slater got the opening goal with the assist going to Eric Demers. The Huskies evened the match up just five minutes later on the goal by Brandon Aanderud. The Bulldogs regained the lead in the 68th minute on a Tyler Patnode goal assisted by Zack Matthews. Then in a desperation finish in the final seconds of regulation, the Huskies crossed the ball into a scramble in front of the net between Chateaugay goalie Kyle Demers and Malone's Casey Warner. Warner got the tip and the ball trickled across the line as the horn sounded forcing overtime in a 2-2 tie. Each team had chances in the two extra frames, but there was no scoring. Kyle Demers made eight saves for the Bulldogs, while goalies Beebe and LaPage combined for 4 saves for Malone.

OGDENSBURG & O.F.A. SCRAP TO A 2-2 TIE IN 2008 OPENER


Gouverneur’s Lee French (10) cuts back to the middle to get by Ogdensburg’s Ryan Frary (8).  The much-improved Wildcats built off last week's tournament title to battle to a 2-2 draw with O.F.A. in their season opener on Tuesday.  Nick Cotton-Baez struck mesh first in the 24th minute.

Gouverneur led 3-1 with just under two minutes to play in regulation, but South Jeff rang up two quick goals to tie 3-3 and force overtime and a shootout. CHATEAUGAY TOPS COUGARS 4-1 IN SEMI; FALLS IN FINALE

LAPOINT, BERCUME LEAD POTSDAM TO TOURNEY TITLE


Potsdam's Jordan LaPoint outraced Madrid-Waddington goalie Jordan Kendall to the ball and headed the Sandstoners' third goal midway through the first half.  Potsdam took advantage of backfield lapses to ring up and 8-1 win in the semifinals of the Jeffers Tournament. Lapoint and Garrett Sharlow each scored twice.  In the championship, Potsdam stopped Parishville-Hopkinton 5-0.  Ryan Bercume scored twice, while LaPoint tallied a goal and an assist. Parishville-Hopkinton kicker Ryan Gallagher (13) drives the ball low to score a goal in the shootout against Colton-Pierrepont keeper Nick Monast.  After a 1-1 overtime tie, the Panthers nipped the Colts 3-2 in the shootout to advance to the championship of the Jeffers Tournament at Potsdam Central's new artificial turf field.  In the consolation of the Jeffers, the Colts tied Madrid-Waddington 0-0.  Monast made 11 saves for the shutout, while Jordan Kendall also held the opposition scoreless with eight saves. CROWDER LEADS O.F.A. TO TOURNEY TITLE VS. LISBON
