Clarkson Women Top SUNY Canton 80-66

RED STORM TIPS WATERVLIET IN OVERTIME THRILLER 14-7

SAINTS FOOTBALL LOSES HEARTSTOPPER TO W.P.I. 21-20

ST. LAWRENCE'S PAVLUS WINS REGIONAL; SAINTS FINISH 4TH


St. Lawrence University's Wendy Pavlus (463), flanked by teammate Joanna Luddington (461), comes down a hill with the lead early in the race and that is where she would finish in the as the 2008 NCAA Atlantic Regional Individual Champion. S.L.U. MEN 4TH, PLATTSBURGH 5TH AT NORTHEAST REGIONAL


St. Lawrence University finished fourth in the 30-team field at the 2008 Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships run on SLU’s 8000-meter Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course on a rainy Saturday. St. Lawrence University's Dan Ramsey and Steve Kipligat will be running for the scarlet and brown at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Hanover College in Indiana next weekend, but the rest of their teammates will have to wait until Sunday to find out if it is going to be a full-team or just the two individuals.  (Foote photo)  Meet Gallery

SUNY POTSDAM HOST NORTH COUNTRY TIPOFF CLASSIC

SUNY Potsdam’s Jerry Welsh Gymnasium will be the site of this weekend’s exciting basketball action as the Bears host the North Country Tip-Off Classic sponsored by Casella Waste Services. Friday’s games will began at 6 pm when the Golden Knights of Clarkson University take on the Keystone College Giants. Following at 8 pm the Potsdam Bears will welcome the Paul Smith’s Bobcats. Tournament action will continue on Saturday afternoon with the consolation match scheduled to begin at 2 pm followed by the 2008 championship contest at 4 pm. The Bears are 1-0 on the season following their 68-66 win last Saturday against Hobart. Brendan Graney scored 20 points to lead the team’s scoring while adding six rebounds. Damon Brown also scored in double figures as he added 16 points. Paul Smith’s comes to Potsdam with a 1-3 record after losing last week to Johnson State 80-57. The Golden Knights also start the weekend with a 1-0 tally after defeating Morrisville State, 54-52, last Saturday. James Evans led Clarkson with 10 points and 7 rebounds followed by Barry Linton with 8 points and 7 boards. Keystone (1-0) won Tuesday’s season opener at Delaware Valley College by a score of 86-79. Tercel Taylor led the Giants with 21 points. Last year the Bears won the 2007 Tip Off Classic as they defeated the Golden Knighs 71-51 in the championship match. Clarkson, which alternates hosting the annual event with SUNY Potsdam, won the tournament in 2006 when they defeated the Bears 58-55.
 

N.C.C.C. SAINTS CONSOLATION WINNER OF HOME TOURNEY


North Country's Dominic Mungen (34) goes up for the opening tip against Erie Community College on Saturday in the opening round of the Saints Classic. SUNY CANTON WOMEN BOW TO HOUGHTON COLLEGE 69-46


SUNY Canton’s Brittany Kenyon (15) of Hammond, NY goes up for the layin, but has it swatted away by the taller Ashley Dupler (33) of Houghton College.  Kenyon scored 10 points and dded five rebounds for SUNY Canton.  SUNY Canton lost to Houghton College 69-46 in a game played at Clarkson University on Saturday. DUKES, WARRIORS CLOSE THE BOOKS IN NORTH CONFERENCE

Indian River’s Curtis Dukes (26) runs a sweep to the outside for a 17-yard gain and a first down.  Dukes, a senior, finished his final high-school game with 16 carries for 146 yards and caught a 22-yard pass for 168 all-purpose yards.  Dukes heads to Penn State to play next year.  The game also marked the final contest for Indian River in the Northern Football Conference as they return to Section III next year.  It was also the last football game for longtime Indian River Athletic Director Ralph "Sandy" Overton who will retire on January 1, 2009.

CLARKSON WOMEN SURPRISE #4 HARVARD IN 2-0 SHUTOUT

POTSDAM WINS E.C.A.C. FIRST-ROUND VS. RUSSELL SAGE 4-0

NORTH SOCCER STANDOUTS ALSO EARN COLLEGE HONORS

Four members of the SUNY Canton men's soccer team, including Josh Avery of South Colton, NY, a member of the 2006 New York State Boys Soccer Champion Colton-Pierrepont Colts, have received all-Sunrise Conference honors. A sophomore defender, Avery and freshman defender Josh Mowery of Elizabethtown, N.Y., received the awards prior to the Sunrise Conference tournament in Maine. Avery and Mowery helped lead a defense that held opponents to 1.5 goals per game. Avery started every game at sweeper and contributed one goal and six points and Mowery played in 19 games and recorded two goals and eight points. Also receiving offensive honors were Repton Abrahams and Bismark Ansah.

Six members of the SUNY Canton women's soccer team were honored, including junior midfielder Niki Perkins formerly of Parishville-Hopkinton, senior defender Vanessa Badlam of Ogdensburg, freshman defender Teresa Morley of Morley and head coach Al Benda of Potsdam were all honored. Perkins was named the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year and to the all-conference team for the second year in a row. Perkins netted a team-leading 25 goals and finished with 58 points and 65 shots. Benda was named the conference Coach of the Year after leading the Roos to the regular season title. Badlam and Morley led a defense that limited opponents to 1.1 goals per game. Badlam had two goals and six points and Morley contributed on assist.

MASSENA OVERMATCHED BY CORTLAND IN 4-1 STATES LOSS

SARANAC LAKE UPSETS O.F.A. FOR CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIP


In a pivotal interception in the fourth quarter, Saranac Lake's Forrest Morgan (20) leaps and plucks an overthrown ball to stymie a promising Ogdensburg scoring drive.  The Red Storm broke a 21-21 tie in the fourth quarter with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Austin McDonough from Brandon Patraw, then a four-yard touchdown run from Jon Barge to upset the top-seeded O.F.A. Blue Devils 33-21.  Barge had three TD carries to guide the Saranac Lake tile win.

WARRIORS CLOSE SECTION X, ROMPING ON ARCHRIVAL 36-0

PANTHERS HELD TO 3 SHOTS AS CHAZY WINS 1-0 IN ELITE 8

STONERS MISS KEY CHANCES, BOW TO HORNETS IN STATES


Potsdam’s Cassie Grace (7) reaches in to poke the ball away from a Plattsburgh Hornets' attacker.  Potsdam and Plattsburgh battled to a scoreless deadlock through regulation and two overtimes.  Plattsburgh outlasted Potsdam in the shootouts 3-2 to win the opening round of the N.Y. P-H PANTHERS & HARRISVILLE CO-CHAMPS; P-H ADVANCES


The Parishville-Hopkinton celebrate by hoisting goalie Dennis Tebo into the air after surviving a two overtimes and 7-6 penalty-kick shootout.  The Panthers and Harrisville Pirates battled to a 1-1 double overtime draw and thus declared Section X Class D Co-Champions!  However, for the second year in a row, the Panthers will advance to the State Sectional playoffs after winning the shootout.  With a first-round bye, the Panthers move directly to the Region II final at Potsdam Central on Friday at 7:00 p.m.  (Eric Foote photo)

The Harrisville Lady Pirates celebrate in the middle of the field after beating Chateaugay 1-0 to retain the Section X Class D Soccer Championship.  Harrisville won the title in 2007 and 2008.  Leah Malbeuf scored the lone goal on a partially miss-struck ball, in the slot about 15 feet in front of the net.  The ball tipped off a defender and angled slightly, just past the diving Chateaugay goalie Amanda Wilcox.  Harrisville will advance to the State Sectional playoffs with a first-round bye.  The Pirates move directly to the Region II final at Potsdam Central on Friday at 5:00 p.m.  (Foote photo)  Game Gallery  NCSN Broadcast
 

N.C.C.C. OPENS HOOPS SEASON COMES UP SHORT AT HUDSON
